Kids have fun will learning about electricity

The Story Behind the Switch - A hair-raising experience

In December, Michelle Pastor, Tri-State Generation &Transmission Association’s Senior Education Program Advisor, presented “The Story Behind the Switch” to area fourth and fifth graders  studying electricity at Mesa Elementary, Kemper Elementary, Monticello Elementary, Dove Creek Elementary and Mancos Elementary schools.  “The Story Behind the Switch” is a traveling, hands on demonstration program  that teaches students about different types of generation of electricity and the path it takes to get to our homes from the power plant. The program also includes important safety information. The many hands-on training aids included a plasma ball to demonstrate how glass works as an electrical insulator and a Van de Graaf generator that shows how static electricity travels through the human body (shown here). EEA provides other educational programs about electricity and safety.
